Services

Biobank Graz services aim to foster medically relevant research discoveries for improved diagnosis and treatment in patient care. It is the goal of Biobank Graz to provide answers to our researchers’ questions that combine the well-established clinical experience at the Medical University of Graz/University Hospital Graz with the unique technology platforms at the Center for Medical Research (ZMF) and access to one of the largest clinical biobanks in Europe (Biobank Graz).

The Biobank Graz service portfolio

Services related to retrospective biobank projects:

  • Project development and project coordination
  • Provision of samples and data
  • Preparation of derivatives (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, …)
  • Data pre-processing and clearing
  • Quality assurance measures

 

Further biobank services:

  • Prospective sample collection; planning and realization of prospective study cohorts
  • Contact to and networking with other biobanks
  • Integration of pre-existing collections into Biobank Graz
  • Information for the respective personnel groups / advanced and continued education
  • Consulting and training (legal, ethical, technical and organizational aspects of biobanking)
  • Support at the installation of new biobanks

 

For further analysis:

Samples are preferably not transferred outside the university. Instead we favour on-site analysis in the core facilities of the Center for Medical Research (ZMF) to reach the following goals:

  • Protection of sample quality and prevention of sample loss
  • Minimal sample consumption
  • Comparability and standardization of analyses
  • Use of analysis data in different studies
  • Cost minimization
