2 Clinical departments and institutes of Medical University of Graz/University Hospital Graz collecting samples and data to be stored at Biobank Graz appoint Biobank representatives (BR) that pursue the research interests of the delegating institutions in cooperation with Biobank Graz. BRs prepare reports on submitted biobank projects that form the basis for the decisions of the approval committee (AC).
3 The Biobank Graz Approval Committee (AC) is an independent committee comprising five senior scientists from Medical University of Graz who make decisions regarding the implementation of Biobank Graz project proposals.
Members of Approval Committee (as of 01/2017):
The above scheme shows how project requests are processed. After a project enquiry is filed, Biobank Graz checks whether the required (suitable) samples and data are available.
The next step in the project development is an interactive process that includes the definition of the study protocol and the study cohort and leads to the project proposal. This interactive and interdisciplinary discussion process often results in research co-operations.
The AC assesses the submitted project proposals. Its decision process to approve or reject a given project proposal takes into account statements from BRs from the institutes and departments that contribute to Biobank Graz by collecting samples and data and which pursue their own research interest in the research area of the respective project.
The composition and modus operandi of the AC and the BR are governed by the “Procedural rules of the Approval Committee of the Biobank Graz, Med Uni Graz" (German) (>>download<<).
The AC applies to the following decision criteria:
The following standards apply for the project implementation:
