Within the last years Biobank Graz emerged to one of the largest clinical biobanks in Europe and became more and more acknowledged. This indicates that a steadily and critically revised strategy leads to success. At the same time, a specific PR strategy is important to increase the recognition of a biobank.
The constant effort of Biobank Graz is to inform the general public about biobanking and the activities of Biobank Graz. Since biobanking has a major role in research, it is important to point out its relevance for the society and for every individual. Therefore, Biobank Graz sets constant activities aimed at the general public such as guided tours through the biobank, publishing of non-scientific articles or performing projects with pupils and students.
Since it is crucial for biobanks to be renowned in the research community, Biobank Graz pursues a combination of various public relation activities (see figure on the right). Besides guided tours or local road shows, online portals are a rather new source for promotion. Recently, an increasing number of portals with varying scope has been set-up.
